Day 6: Gmail, Bookmarking, and CNN, oh my! (9/11/2012)

KEY POINTS:
1. Technology is a tool, not a toy.
2. Technology is a tool and must be handled with care.
3. Current events can help us make choices.





TRAINING GOALS:


Digital Literacy: The HHG Tributes of 2018 will be able to bookmark important websites, add contacts to their gmail, and send Ms. Kelly an email.


Social Studies: The HHG Tributes of 2018 will be able to evaluate and make connections to current events.


DO NOW:

Task 1: Log in to google chromebook and open our class website using the website you bookmarked yesterday. If you did not bookmark it, click the link above and do so. Then, click Today’s Tribute Training to bring you to Today’s training module.

Task 2: Take out your independent reading book and begin silently reading. When all students are reading, Ms. Kelly will know we are ready to begin.


TRIBUTE TRAINING:

Task 3: Follow along with Ms. Kelly as she shows you the different parts of your Gmail account. After you log in to your email, you need to change your password.

Task 4: Add the following bookmarks (and use these names for your bookmarks) to your chrome browser:



Task 5: Add all your teachers to your contacts. Follow along as Ms. Kelly demonstrates how.

Task 6: Send Ms. Kelly an e-mail. You e-mail must be written in complete sentences and say:

"Hey Ms. Kelly! My name is ________ and I am sending you an e-mail. My favorite TV show is _________. Have a good day! (your name)."


Task 7: Log out of your chromebook, gently close it, and begin silently reading your book. When all students are reading, Ms. Kelly will know we are ready to begin.


Task 8: Watch today's episode of CNN Student News on the board whole group.


Task 9: Participate in the discussion of CNN Student News.


Task 10: Practice entering and exiting the classroom with Chromebooks.


Homework: Oral Interview: What do you remember about the events of 9/11? (Due Thursday 9/13/12)
