Day 19: Fall of Rome (Part 2) 9/28/12

Standard 7.1.1: Standard 7.1.1 Study ... [the] ultimate internal weaknesses (e.g., rise of autonomous military powers within the empire, undermining of citizenship by the growth of corruption and slavery, lack of education, and distribution of news). 
Standard 7.1.2: Discuss the geographic borders of the empire at its height and the factors that threat­ened its territorial cohesion.

Key Points:
1. The Roman Empire lasted for hundreds of years.
2. The Roman Empire started in Rome and grew into a large empire.
3. The Roman Empirecollapsed for more than one reason.


SS Objective:  The HHG Tributes of 2018 will be able to discuss the factors that weakened the Roman Empire and ultimately lead to its fall.  


DL objective: The HHG Tributes of 2018 will be able create a Google Doc that includes pictures and text, and place it in their History folder,.

Task 1:  Do Now: What makes an government strong? What makes a government weak? What type of government do you feel is ideal and why? If you have a better idea of how to run a government, what is it?

Task 2: Go over our cause and effect maps from yesterday.

Task 3: Track Ms. Kelly as she goes over the lesson for the day. If there is enough time we will watch CNN Student News today (no promises). You can always watch it home, too!

Task 4: Choose one of the topics that you're interesting in learning a little more about:
Roman Military Expansion
Roman Geography
Roman Government
Roman Society (life)

Task 5: Create a new Google document and title it: "Roman Empire Independent Investigation Homeroom last name first name". Create a list of important information and/or facts from the text that you read. You should have at least five facts or pieces of information, written in your own words, and two images. You are working silently and independently.
If you're done early: A look back. We're going to use this time to review the difference between architecture and engineering. Use each word in a sentence, demonstrating that you understand the difference between the two.

Step 4: Progress report discussion and how to complete missing work.

  • Most grades right now are completion grades. IDK, ??, and leaving questions blank do not receive full credit.
  • No excuses for sloppy or incomplete homework: you can and should use your class notes and readings (or the internet!) to find the correct answer. 
  • Copy and pasting, or using the 
  • In order to turn in late work, you must submit a late/missing work form so that I know where to find it. Late work will remove you Friday Homework Detention, but will receive no credit.
  • What do you think you should you do if you think you completed something, but it shows as missing?

Homework: Read and track the article, then answer the questions on the workbook page linked below..
Thinking tracks should include highlighting and comments for every paragraph. High quality tracks receive high quality grades!
**When you finish, you must submit your workbook page with a link to your tracked copy of the reading.**

Begin to review for Monday's Quiz (everything we've learned thus far on Rome) and the Unit Exam on 10/5/12 (ALL of ROME)!

Constantine and Maxentius are going to fight eachother.Constantine's vision is the cross.Maxentius was a man who didnt like Constantine.Maxentius kills himself by crossing the bridge he made to kill Constantine.Afer Maxentius died he converted to Christian, and he gave everyone freedom of religion.He ended it.
