Click here for a copy of today's handout.

Step 1: Do now.  Homework quiz!  How well did you understand the reading?  Answer the questions from the reading last night.  You may use your copy of the homework to review.

Step 2: Primary versus Secondary Sources.  We learn history using a variety of sources, and it is important to understand the difference between the different types of sources.

Step 3: Watch the following video and follow along in the handout.  What examples of primary sources do you see? Is the video a primary source or a secondary source?

Step 4: Silent Trade Activity.  With your partner, use these sources to see what you can learn about silent trade.  Make sure you put comments (secret keyboard shortcut: CTRL+ALT+M) and answer the question at the bottom using full and detailed sentences.

Step 5: Primary Source Treasure Hunt.  The BBC has an amazing website with artifacts from Africa from different time periods.  Each of these artifacts is a primary source!  We can learn about the people and life in Africa and the different countries therein by looking at what is used.  Browse the objects, then pick your favorite and describe it to the class in this discussion.  Remember, your characters are limited, so choose your words wisely!
