Day 29: Feudal Contract & the Knight (10/12/12)

SS Objective: The HHG Tributes of 2018 will be able to describe the feudal contract and the life of a knight in the middle ages.

Step 2: Do Now. What types of contracts have you entered into in your life? What motivated you to sign? Were you able to negotiate or not? Everyone has signed at least one! You signed the KIPP Commitment to Excellence! You signed your Social Studies Social Contract as part of your syllabus. Perhaps for sports? To use Facebook?

Step 3: Yesterday, we read this feudal contract, and in partners you completed the list of things that John, the peasant, had to do by signing the contract. Open your copy of the contract. What were some of the things John had to do?

You may be wondering, "Was there any way to break the feudal contract? What if you got in with a bad lord?"

The answer is yes, but only under certain circumstances. Read this to find out when...

Step 3: Track this video on Knights. We are only watching the first 1:20, you are welcome to watch the rest at home.

Step 4: Knights During Feudal Times.
We are going to take a closer look at the knights during the middle ages. Read this passage about the knights. Imagine that you are a knight during the middle ages. What would you see? What would you hear and smell? Write your thoughts using this organizer.

Finished early? Head over to Quizlet to review vocabulary for Monday's quiz. Are there any words that Ms. Kelly has forgotten to include? Send your suggestions to her using this form. Above and Beyond Merit for words that are added!

Homework: Write a code of chivalry for yourself. This is your formal code of behavior that you are agreeing to live by. The knights' code included things like loyalty, faith, hope, bravery, truth, and mercy. What values do you live by?

Your response must be 1 paragraph (7-10 sentences) minimum. You may decorate your document with pictures, if you would like. If you need help creating a new document watch this video. You do not need to share it with me, but make sure it is inside your history folder! Then, send me a link to your completed work using this form.

Remember, no School Monday! There is a Quiz on Tuesday! I will be absent Tuesday, so don't forget to review your readings and study the vocab. The quiz will only cover words we have covered in class or been in the readings so far. It will be short answer essay response.
