The Fall of the Aztecs

Objective: HHG Tributes of 2018 will be able to describe the Spanish conquest of the Aztecs.

Do now. What are 3 things the Aztecs and the Mayans had in common? What are three things they each did differently? Use your homework and the articles from the past week and a half to help you.

Class reading. Read, highlight, track and summarize The Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire.

Different Perspectives. There are always at least two sides to a story.
1. Create a fresh document.
2. Choose one of the following prompts.
3. Use these links to help you answer the questions from the perspective of either Montezuma or Cortez.

4. Write a minimum of three paragraphs from the perspective of the prompt you chose, using the questions to guide oyu.
5. Once you have proof read it and feel it is ready for the public, copy and paste your story, along with your full heading, in the comments section of today's lesson.

Choose one of the following prompts:
Mindset 1: Write imaginative diary entries from the point of view of Montezuma.
Consider the following questions: What might Montezuma have been thinking when he
met the Spanish? Did he remember the omens of the past few years? Was this the
returning god Quetzalcoatl or a potential enemy? What could the reports about the
unbelievable Spanish firepower and their battles against his subjects and their partnership
with his traditional enemies mean? Should he destroy them immediately or treat them as
friends? What would you have done?

Mindset 2: Write imaginative diary entries from the point of view of Cortes. Consider:
What might Cortes have been thinking when he entered Tenochtitlan? Were they prisoners or guests of Montezuma? Should Cortes be on guard against an attack, the non-delivery of food, the raising of bridges isolating him in the city? Does Cortes need to be ruthless in order to survive or can he trust the Aztecs? What would you have done in his
place?

Homework.

  1. Finish your imaginative diary entry and paste it (Along with a full heading!) in the comments section of today's lesson. Make sure it is clear who you are writing as and your sentences are free of errors.
  2. Study for tomorrow's Central and South American Geography retest. There are 21  mainland countries and 5 extra credit islands. Anyone who does not pass on this round will be given a detention so they can stay after school and study here.

I Cortes should be on guard for the attack because what if the try to do a sneak attack against us then it will all be ok and we won't have any problems.he would be able to control the transfer of the food and the other things that would have to control too like raising the bridge and isolating people from my city. This is my duty and I will continue to do this all my life.

    Do The Right Thing

    The Road of Hernan Cortes

    Entry 1:

Getting in was passed with almost no difficulty. While I am grateful to have gotten in in the first place, I am still a bit on edge why we were accepted in so graciously. I’ll keep a sharp eye on what’s going on.
    Entry 1: End

    Entry 2:

Here begins my second entry on a new day. It seems as if they see us as gods of some sort. Like we’re just so powerful to them that they must do our bidding to keep the gods happy. My men are learning all about the weaknesses of the Aztec people. This is starting to look more and more like a setup. I fear I might have to make a move tomorrow.
    Entry 2: End

    Entry 3:

Now that we are finally leaving, I know that if I had chosen to fight, things wouldn’t have turned out so good the way it did today. We now know all of the Aztec’s weaknesses and are ready to come back for a full on assault tomorrow. This shall be my final journal entry.
    Entry 3: End

  4. The Spanish had no idea how lucky they were
that the Aztecs misunderstood who they were
and why they were there. The Spanish
conquistadors were looking for lands to
conquer, gold to capture, and people to
    convert to the Catholic religion.
The Spanish were amazed at what they found in
the capital city of Tenochtitlan. Everything
was clean. There were “eating houses” and
hairdressers. You could buy medicines and
herbs and all kinds of food. You could buy
meat and game. There were streets that sold
only pottery and mats. Painters could buy the
paints they needed for their art.
In 1519, the Spanish conquistador, Hernan Cortes,
sailed from Europe to land in what is now
Mexico. After a difficult journey inland, Cortes
and his men entered the Aztec capital city and
    met , the Aztec leader.

Dear diary, today when I met the spanish they were a little off. was interrupted by the invasion of the Spaniards under Cortez in 1519-1522 spanish. Mocteuzma II was interrupted by the invasion of the Spaniards under Cortez in 1519-1522.I did not remeber the olmens after a few years.

I was the returning god. I think they mean that it is time for revenge. I think that he should treat them as friend. I would decided to treat them as friends Naturally a grave and silent man, the few words he used to say in the council of the chiefs impressed everyone and when the throne of Mexico became vacant, all eyes turned to Montezuma as the right man to fill it. When Montezuma heard this, he hid himself in a temple.I had been made king in 1502.

It has been nine long months at uncharted seas with very little food left. Then I reached and strange new land never before seen by my people. I lead my crew into a jungle and sword in hand to cut the jungle around me. The jungle was rich with herbs, plants, and fruits. The leafs were think to cut but my armor keep me protected. There before my eye was this magnificent empire.
As I approached this wonder place I was something in the distant and gate to the Empire. People they were people in the distant so I marched over to the people and they started to shower me with gifts of all kinds from herbs to animals. I didn’t know why we were given these extraordinary gifts but I went along with it.
When I reached the capital I was shocked to see their were rows of goods where you could find anything but they didn’t use money at all only traded equal amounts. I was treated like I was a god. This place seemed perfect but their were this slaughter on the top of the pyramid of a mans heart being cut out and raised in the air every sunset.
Then I noticed the people were so perfect. As I stood they a watched me with strange and confused faces. I then said “Why are you killing this man he has done no crime?” The they all raised their weapons and told us to be gone. I was lucky I was still alive sore those men will not die in vain. We will come back and destroy everything you have.

It has been ten days since these weird people with all this shiny things come to are country. The questions that run through my head is.Is this the holy god Quetzalcoatl that fits the description of the legend or are you punishing us? He can’t communicate with us, when we do sacrifices he seems worried or frightened is that what Gods suppose to do?How may I say this but he’s different I know that everybody have their ways but, he acts as if he don’t know what he doing
Great! God are you punishing me, did we do something wrong that you're disturbed about that I don't know?My mind is going in a nutshell right now because it feel as it is revenge ,my people are dying of diseases that seems incurable from what these people have brought. Is this the returning god Quetzalcoatl? Are these the people that we give as sacrifices to you?Should we sacrifice him and his army?
Couple of days later,I know you must of listen to my worshipping because this “so called god”just left.So we found out the real one he must’ve never been the Holy God Quetzalcoatl but thank you great god for sowing us signs and wonders. We really found out who he was “Spanish conquistadors.”Next ,time he comes we got something for him, something really big.
Their back and think their something. They have weapons and we have bows and arrows what should we do.They gained up all are enemies as a partnership with them or you can say are”haters.”Of course we going to have some because we're doing something right. But,this looks like they're trying to overrule us.

God what should I do should I let them have it or let it be.If he is the a real god we will be killing a God which is not faithful to you as people who worship you.

    Sincerely,
    Montezuma

  8. Dear Journal,

Today I wake up to the sound of cinclodes sing in the trees. I the guards in the servants. They give me a face towel which is warm, I like it to be a little more hot so I send it back out to the bathroom for rewarming. As the servants leave the scholar runs in bows down and announces that the god has come back for us. I don't know what to wear for the god I was thinking of wearing toda. I put it on with cautions so none of the beads fall off.

I want to run to the gods feet but I don't want him to think i'm pitiful so I stay on my feet to show pride. We shake hands and I almost lose it . I offer to give him gold and the finest food in the village. He was wearing something that was not swaying back and forth. He had enormous little squirrels at both sides of him. They look scary but I know the gods had power of them. I asked him that we had been waiting for him for years. I wanted to tell him to put his power over the civilization to bless us but that would seem greedy so I don't ask.

I offer him to rest at one of the huge guest houses. He says his but I have to make sure that no one interrupts his sleep. I walk him over to the the houses, he places his things down. We talk for awhile we say our goodbyes. As I head back to the temple I see the people getting along.

    March 4, 1519

I first heard of invasion of the White Men in 1517, at the time of a previous expedition. From that point on I had spies posted to report on every event. I wasn't sure when the White Men were gonna come and I needed to be warned for attack. On March 4th the Spaniards landed in what is now Veracruz. My people greeted him with gifts. A contingent from Tenochtitlán also arrives with gifts. Cortes showed force and demonstrated his canons, terrifying the messengers. He sunk all our ships except one small vessel, and moved to the city-state of Tlaxcala. Generally speaking they began on friendly terms. The Spanish went on to Cholula. It's unclear what happened, but in the end many of my people in the city were killed by the Spanish. That’s when we figured out that these people weren't our gods they were our enemies.

    November 8, 1519

Cortes and his army came back to Tenochtitlán, and begin on good terms. However, he takes charge and demands tribute and some Roman Catholic shrines to replace our Aztec gods. The Spanish returns to the coast to defeat a rival Spanish army. The remaining soldiers join him. We end up revolting, driving the Spanish from the city. Cuitláhuac becomes emperor. The Spanish go to Tlaxcala and make an alliance with them. Most of my cities are conquered, and a siege of Tenochtitlán begins.

    November 8, 1519 (Continue)

When I first met the Spanish they seemed godlike, but then they started killing most of my people and that’s just not right. At first, my people thought it was our returning god but we soon caught on that these people were our enemies. I thought that we should've treat those people as friends at first because they seemed like gods but they didn't even watch the sacrificial ceremonies, which were for them. But now that I see the Spanish for their true colors I understand that I should've killed them.

  10. Title:Heman Cortes

    Dear diary,
It all started in 1504 when Cortes first arrived in the Spanish New World at age 18 in Hispaniola
and Cuba already in spanish hands. The cortes prisoners always tried to escape and they always were bunch up in a little cage or prison that was like a little low-income building.
The Mesoamericans were prisoners of the Cortes and they get in their for disobeying

Cortes rules or laws. The Cortes should be raising the raising of bridges isolating him

    in the city.

I think cortes should be ruthless and poor because they need homes, food, shelter

and help the Mesoamericas help them survive. The cortes can not be trusted in Aztecs

because they don’t get along with the aztecs or they prisoners. In the Cortes prison I couldv’e

try to escape or do a runaway to get faster out of that place. And i would have a judge to

get out of their fast not slow.

The prisoners were rescued later in life by the mesoamericans and the cortes then that happen
later on in life at 1518 later when the cortes rescued the prisoners from the technotitlan.

    Dear Diary,
When I found the new place filled people that looked very different than people in Spain. When we walked onto their land, the people looked at us as if they were expecting us to be coming. The people spoke a language that we didn’t understand, the people treated us like Gods. They gave us flowers, gifts, food of some kind that was very unusual, but tasted very good.
After a few months of staying there to know who these people are and to get their way of living, the strange people started to think that we did something wrong and kicked us out of their land. It was hard leaving, because the land was surrounded by water.
We decided that they should deserve a punishment so we killed their leader and declared war. We spainian’s killed everyone one of those strange people and found gold in their land.

  12. Look, strange men over there. They are shiny and feathers from there head.Montezuma, Montezuma remember the god of sun promised he would come back that is him. What is he riding on, it looks like some type of 4 legged beast and a small one next to them.Well lets go welcome them and show them how much we care for him...

They have been here for a while and they don’t seem like gods they are really lazy and they don’t seem to like our sacrifices and we sacrificed more people since they came. They shouldn’t really live here anymore Montezuma.I am going to do the best I can to invite them to leave so if they are not gods they will leave us alone and if they are gods they can go peacefully with no problem. You are so smart Montezuma, that’s why you are the leader...

Montezuma, Montezuma they have returned and they have surrounded us.They don’t seem so friendly now.Well we must prepare for battle.Who will fight in our battles the are all sick from some type of illness the supposal gods have brang among us,everyone is covered in bumps and has scaly skin. What shall we do.Help they have taken me hostage and are planning to kill me.A gun shot just went off and where is Montezuma. He is over there. What happen to him I think they killed him. They will get what is coming for them sooner or later. But we are slowly dying off this illness is spreading there is basicly no one left

    Dear Diary,

Today a group of strange looking men came into my land. They were all wearing some type of shiny gray thing that covered their entire body. There was one man who was clearly the leader of the rest of the men. He also had an EXTREME resemblance to Quetzalcoatl; the god that swore on returning to get his revenge. The man who resembles Quetzalcoatl and the rest of the men appeared from the exact same place that Quetzalcoatl was said to have disappeared from. There are so many things in which this man reminds me of Quetzalcoatl.
The man came to my house and just looked around at all of the art and beautiful things I had as decorations of my house. He looked as if amazed at what I had. There was something I wanted to tell him but when I tried he couldn’t understand me. He spoke and understood a different language. He brought in other men that I tried to ask if the man was Quetzalcoatl, but they too did not understand. It was extremely frustrating.
I believe that this man truly is Quetzalcoatl and he hasn’t done anything to prove that he isn’t so for now, I am going to believe that he is Quetzalcoatl. I am to tell all people that the man is the return of Quetzalcoatl. That the end of the world is now on its way. We will treat this man as the god he is. Everyone must him and his people as though they are gods.
I truly hope that this man is Quetzalcoatl because if he is not, then I fear for the lives of each and every one of us.
    -Montezuma

Montezuma probably thought “What are these people doing here, on my land in my and my people’s place?” Yes Montezuma remembered the omens after the past few years. Too Montezuma those people was potential enemy’s. But as they met now Montezuma see that Cortes was a god. He should have destroyed them the first time, because that was the reason for Montezuma’s death.

Montezuma fought his way for 2 days through the streets to the causeway to Tacuba and then had to capture the gaps in the road where eight bridges had been destroyed by the Aztecs. Slowly, the Spaniards captured each Aztec barricade and then tore it down to fill the gap in the causeway where the bridge had been; they then fought their way to the next barricade. Cortés thought he had bought a cease-fire when envoys promised to stop fighting if their high priest was released; in reality, the Aztecs needed him to perform the requisite ceremonies to install Cuitlahuac as emperor. The attacks started again, and the Spaniards were forced back to their palace. Hastily building a portable bridge, Cortés ordered a force of 150 of his soldiers and a few hundred Tlaxcalans to lay the bridge across the first gap in the causeway and then defend it while the bulk of his survivors crossed; they would then lay down fire for the second gap to be bridged. The evacuation took place on the night of 30 June–1 July, what the Spaniards called the Noche Triste, the Night of Sorrows.

They managed to break out of the palace with almost all of their cannon, but their greed caused them to carry as much gold as they could, and that certainly slowed their escape. In the end, the Spaniards succeeded to escape, but all their artillery and most of their gold was lost, as were some 600 men and two-thirds of the sixty-eight horses. His Tlaxcalan allies lost perhaps 2,000 men. They made a stand at Tacuba and then escaped the following night northward. They were harassed constantly on their retreat to Tlaxcala.

Just the legend that we believed in .We believed that there was a god and that he would return one day and when he returns we will worship him in all the ways that we can to make our god happy .We still believe to this day that a god will come in fine nice clothing and we will just worship him for everything that he has done for us.

I am the leader of the Aztecs. My name is Montezuma. We have been wanting for a while to wait for our god that we believe will return again. When he comes we will give him gifts and gold and everything he wants we will also kills people for him. This morning me and my family eat rice tortillas. After that we were going to get our day started on our regular things. With some males building more temples for the theaters to worship the gods in others worked in the fields farming. While females were in the houses preparing food for their household .

Later that day this well dressed man with armor that we have never seen before crossed by our land. This was something different when we have people cross our land we usually kill them but we didn’t kill him . He was light-skinned we have never saw a man such as him. We all believed that he was the god by the way that he dressed and how he was so light skin. We gave him gifts, we also killed some of our fellow Aztecs friends and families. We believed that if you sacrifice someone for the gods. We were kind of concerned because when we were killing people they looked at us like we had a problem or like we were crazy and we're doing something they didn’t like . That’s when we got to thinking and we had a feeling that this well dressed man was not a god because he didn’t like us killing(Sacrificing) people for him. We didn’t want to kill the man because then if he was really a god then we would all have bad things happen to us and we didn’t want that. When we tried to get rid of him it was at risk that it was the end of my life and they killed me before I could kill them and that’s when all the Aztecs knew that he was not a god and that we should of never gave them human sacrifices and gold and riches because that’s exactly what they wanted.

    Journal log day 81,

How long have I waited to dock this ship! I think I’ve found my way through to the told land and city of gold... wait! I’ve come across a dense forest with desserts around surely no gold could be in this land and seems unsuitable for living. Though my adventurous side overtakes me I must go through this land. I feel this place may be suitable with some changes and the lumber is plentiful, yes this will be my legacy.

    Journal log day 85,

I’ve discovered more people. But they’re dressed differently and look nothing like us. This place is beautiful the area is so clean the market is crowded and the flower’s aroma is simply magnificent. But their raising the bridges? why? Someone at the temple with a knife and ... oh god! he just cut the poor man and ripped his heart out what witchery is this???

    Journal log Day 98,

I’m worried all I hear is Quetzalcoatl or whatever but they’re giving us strange looks like we shouldn’t be here but all the gold they give us surely they can’t be evil. But the poor people the killed in cold blood why? I stay away from that as much as possible, do they think I like that. Alright I left the city with my crew so I’m going to conquer with Spain.

When my men and got there we met the Aztec leader Montezuma .We were treated nicely and no one was mean, we were being like valued guest. I don’t think they know why we’re here, I don’t think they know want to kill them. I think it’s because of an old legend, this legend told of the god Quetzalcoatl. The Aztecs believed that the god of night had defeated Quetzalcoatl in a game of tlachtli. As the winner, the god of night could decide what to do with Quetzalcoatl. The god of night decided to banish Quetzalcoatl to the East. Quetzalcoatl had no choice but to leave. He vowed that someday he would return, when the end of the world was near, to save his people.

    IMAGINATIVE ME!! ABOUT CORTES

Hi i'm maya i'm going to be telling the story of the Aztecs in Cortes eyes/point of view.

Men!! Gather your finest clothes and feathers we are traveling to the city of the Aztecs, but why sir,I have heard they have all the riches and wealth my pitty little heart desires!Yes sirr. Once they all were prepared they set of toward the Aztecs civilization. When Cortes arrived the Aztecs were all amazed they thought that cortes was the a god sent from the gods because he fit the description and one day the god said that he would be coming back. They began to shower him with jewels and gold.

cortes was beginning to get comfortable with the treatment. The Aztecs began to feel like they were overstaying their welcome so they chose to confront them and be as gentle as possible so if he was a god they would not upset him and cause mayhem. Cortes did not take it well which began a fight and turned into a war.

This leads me to why the aztecs fell because when Cortes and his clan came they were carrying the diseases call smallpox so by the time they got in war they killed majority and the others that survived were already dying of smallpox. The moral lesson that I got out of this part of history is that don't be too trustworthy of people that you don't know very well.

    Dear Diary,

The Spanish have arrived. Believing in the legend of Quetzalcoatl the Spanish are here tho help us. This is what my towns people need to survive the ending of all humanity. Usually wee sacrifice visitors but the Spanish are God's so we must treat them as God's.
Before the Spanish came the Aztecs were horrified about the ending of the earth. Quetzalcoatl kept his promise and sent the Spanish to save the town and I. In honor and respect for the Spanish me and the rest of the Aztecs must shower then with presents and human sacrifice.
For they are our savior and we tho this day are grateful be alive.
I believe that the Spanish are starting to get comfortable. They don't act God like. They don't even come to the human sacrifice. I think it's time to let go of them. The Aztecs and I must get rid of the Spanish carefully so that we don't upset the gods.
    The Spanish are now gone.
The Spanish have returned. This time they brought an army with them. Not only did bring an army but they brought animals and weapons we never seen before. I have a bad feeling this is going to be the fall of the Aztecs. This will not happen by animal weapon , but by disease.

    In Love and Memory of,

    Montezuma

"Do or do Not There is no Try"
    Day 1
The gods have came. At least I’m sure this time; the things they wore and they’re skintone were just too different for them to not be the gods. We welcomed them with are best food and most decorated housing. To keep the gods happy we will have another sacrifice tomorrow they deserve it.

    Day 2
We began the sacrifice after harvest. The nobles set up the altar with the tools and our selection. Then the Gods came out but they didn’t look too happy. As we finished our ceremony our suspicions rose. I at first did not want to believe that these people were not gods and not even anything special.

    Day 3
As we soon came to our senses we realized that it was time for the “gods” to leave. We let them off easily so that even if they were actually gods we had a slight chance of them not punishing us and my civilization.

    Day 15,

Hernan Cortes might’ve been thinking that when he went to Tenochtitlan that his armies would have to fight the Aztecs so he can get their gold.

Because the Aztecs had substantial wealth from trading and heavy payments of tribute from conquered peoples. From 1504 the Aztecs flourished and expanded their empire greatly. By the time Hernando Cortes landed in Mexico with his 600 soldiers, the Aztecs were in control of most of Mexico. The expansion of the Aztecs, made Cortes mad and then he wanted to take over.

They were guest of Montezuma because they lived there and also that they were they people who created the place and they thought he was a cruel Lord.

No I don’t think Cortes should be on guard because, the Aztecs thought he was the God the had been waiting for, also they provided him with gold. He should not be on a watch out for non delivery food because they loved him and protected him. Also people should not be on guard because, they believed if they killed their god it would be a bad season for them.

He can trust the Aztecs because the aztecs provided him with a safe place to live trusted he was the God.Also he meant no harm.

I would not trick the people in believing I was the God,nor would I have mislead them into believing that I was anything else but their friend.

    Dear Diary,
I'm sitting here thinking. I just finally met the Spanish. Do I want to blow their heads off? Or do I want to keep calm. I know one thing, if they try to take MY property, it is not going to be a "cute" situation.
When the Spanish came to meet me, they seemed nice. But, they were probably being two-faced. People like that you dont even know the truth about them. I just have to keep my crops safe and everything else safe.
The lesson of the day is watch people even if they look a certain way. You have to make sure no one comes in your property and steal what is yours. I've come too far just to give up. AMEN

    The Dream

    Dear Diary,

Yesterday was horrible. You would never believe what happend to me. I was strolling around in my great city full of Aztec warriors. I’m on the way back to my golden home when.....BOOM! I’m hit over the head and I fall to the ground.

I’m waking up. At first everything is a little blurry.I have a super bad headache and then I fell the blood on my head. I see a rifle and Cortez. I could think of one thing that they would do to me. A human sacrifice. I start to fall asleep.
After I have fallen asleep and start to dream. I’m not dreaming what I thought I would. I still dream my death, but I haven’t died as a human sacrifice. The Aztecs and the Conquistadors are in complete turmoil. Everybody is killing each other. Then I fell the pain of being pelted by rocks and stones. I had bruises all over and I drop dead. Next thing I know is I’m awake and all I can think is I hope this doesn’t really happen.Shelby Johnson

    Cortes

Once upon A time there once lived a ruler and his name was Cortes. Cortes entered the Aztecs kingdom and thought they were going to win the fight between them but they didn’t. Cortes was determined to break the power of the Aztecs so he took, Moctezuma hostage. He then killed Moctezuma and the Spanish got chased out of there Homes. The Aztecs surrender on August 15, 1521 Cortes demanded the return of the gold and his land back, Cortes should have been on guard for the attack, because he knew the Aztecs were coming. While Cortes was rebuilding his alliances and garnering more supplies a smallpox epidemic struck the natives of the valley of Mexico, including Tenochtitlan. The disease was probably carried by a spanish slave from narvaez’s forces, who have been abandoned in the capital during the spanish fight. “Smallpox played crucial roll in breaking down the Aztecs empire.” If I was Cortes I would send all of the people who had smallpox to the Aztecs army, because they are not immune to the smallpox in their immune system.

    DO the right thing

It was the year 1519 when I reached the new lands. It was a long journey to reach the land. They called themselves the Aztecs. Me and my men were greeted by them. We were greeted with gold. It was hard to know what they were saying because they spoke a different language. I did not feel like they were a threat so I told my men to hold back.
A man dressed in weird clothing was walking towards us. I am assuming he is the leader. I think his name is Montezuma. There was a huge celebration. After a few days, me and my men were enjoying the Aztecs kindness.
They were treating us as if we were God. The only downside was that we were taken to temples where people would get sacrificed. I did not enjoy that. It freaked me out. After a few months the pampering started to decrease. I wonder what made them do that. Then they basically drove us off.
Now we know everything about the Aztecs. We know their strengths and weaknesses. So when we decided to wage war with the Aztecs, we won. We can thank our mastiffs and enemy tribes of the Aztec.

  28. Today was the day it happened, the war. I didn`t know what to do. I had to make sure all of the Spanish were ready to fight. We tried so hard, we practiced. It was our time to conquer Technolithchan. We´ve practiced all day and night with no stopping.

FIGHT! we yelled and everyone went attacking. We had guns, dogs, and horses. These sources helped us fight, we needed to win because we were not backing down. You were killed by the dogs and horses or you were killed by guns. We killed most of the Aztecs and we were not going to stop. We need to Finish them.
Finally, we killed most of the Aztecs. The only thing that held us back was their disease ¨The Measles.¨ But we kept on fighting. After a few years the Aztecs empire finally collapsed and was no longer in Technolithchan.

    Sincerely,

Creative Writting Prompt : diary on Montezuma

    Dear Diary ,
Today in the Aztec country the weirdest thing happened ! I think it may actually be the return of god Quetzalcoatl, an important spanish person . I believe he is here to save me and my people as the spanish promised long ago , but i could be wrong . Me and the Aztecs will just treat them good and make sure they like us . Just so we are sure that they will give us something in return for our nice treating toward them .

I have this theroy that mabey he could be an enemy . Would would we do if he and his people tried to kill us . Mabey i should treat them wrong and not make them feel welcomed . Then they would not be happy with me , and leave . This would ensure that i dont get me or the Aztecs hurt ! Then again that coud be the wrong thing to do . Decisons to be made .

I wonder should i destory them . And make them my sacfrafices for the gods . I wont them to really like us , but who knows who they are . This is very confusing . I dont want to be putting my people in danger . I dont want the gods to hurt us because of a horrible thing we let mislead us . So for now , im just going to be nice . They will be treated good , just in case they’re who we really need .
    Sincerly ,
    Montezuma .

Do It Right or Do It Twice
    Dear Diary,
When I entered Tenochtitlan I thought I was a guest because I was showered with gifts. The Aztecs gave me gold. The Aztecs thought I was god. When I found that out, I was very puzzled as to why. Then I realized that I came during the time when this god in a legend was suppose to return. I was looking at myself and I didn`t see a god. But, the Aztecs said I matched the description.
    Sincerly,
    Hernan Cortes
    Dear Diary,
I was scared that the Aztecs had rising bridges that isolated. I began to feel scared and cornered. When I was walking around looking and discovering things about this place I am in, people where bowing down and saying ,”Oh, thank you oh mighty god for returning.” I felt very closed in so I began to panic. I didn`t eat because I thought they were trying to poison me. I had my guard up at all times.
    Sincerly,
    Hernan C.
    Dear Diary,
Today I have mixed emotions because I don`t know whether to trust the Aztecs or go crazy and kill people to survive. I don`t know what to do. I wish to help me now.
    Here let`s that about it:
    1. When I entered, they gave me gold.
    2.They called me a god.
3.They were loyal enough not to kill me.
    4. They welcomed me.
But that only matters a little bit. What matters is if they are going to blindside me and kill me.
    Sincerly,
    Hernan C.
    Dear Diary,
This is my last entry. Today is the BIG day. I am determined to break the power of the Aztecs. I`m going to take Moctezuma hostage. The Aztecs will fight back so I know Moctezuma will probably get killed.
    (After everything happened:)
The Aztecs drove us out, I don`t know how. We had great weapons like riding on horseback and mastiffs to attack. I didn`t know we gave them diseases because we were so immune to it. But we returned and finally conquered the Aztecs in 1521.
    Sincerly.

    History is Revolutionary !
I was a Spanish explorer who landed on the coast of Mexico. Learning of the powerful Aztec empire and its capital city of Tenochtitlan, I traveled over one hundred miles inland to find the city and claim the Empire for Spain.
When we arrived , the leader of the Aztecs Montezuma let us in without trying to sacrifice us.Montezuma suspected them to be divine envoys of the god Quetzalcatl, who was prophesied to return from the east in a "One Reed" year, which was 1519 on the Aztec calendar. The Spaniards were greeted with great honor, and Cortés seized the opportunity, taking Montezuma hostage so that he might govern the empire through him.
When we felt it was time we went through with the plan. We failed the first time and they ran us out , but we came back in 1519 and made the fall of the Aztecs.

    Be Good!!!!!

    Dear Diary Moctezuma,

We, the Aztecs, dominate the Mexican Valley. We thought that we were “The Big Bosses”. But then the Spanish came, people with skin a mix of the colors brown and red. I wondered if these people’s leader, Mr. (?) Cortes, were the same people described in the tales , myths, and prophecies of the god Quetzalcoatl, returning to us to end our bad omens. I had been getting many reports, stories, and records and the astonishing Spanish firepower and battles with my subjects and the partnership with some of our biggest and most hated enemies, but I assumed that they were something that the gods had planned. Maybe, just maybe, we should treat them as friends.

    What would you have done?:

I would have ridden the Spaniards from the Aztecan Empire A$AP.

    Go 2018!

We have been sailing for days and we finally arrived at land. I cant believe my eyes, I see wonderful trees and animals. As we cut through the forest I notice a big piece of land in the middle of a lake. As the soldiers and I app rich the land we expect a fight, a duel of some sort. Instead we are showered with riches and given goods. I feel that I will like this place very much.

There is something very different about this foreign land. Sure, the people here are delightful, very intelligent, and well rounded but, they have a very violent nature. Today I witnessed these very peculiar people kill not one or two, but five people. For one, it perplexed me to see them celebrate these deaths with such joy, as if it was an honor to die. This event was so tragic that I rejected every good given to me by the foreign. Ever since this tragic event happened, the towns people have been a little hasty toward us. This is why we will be leaving at dawn. But, I will soon be back

    About a month later....

Its been about a month since I last set foot on this piece of land, and I am back again to conquer. Our soldiers have gone to battle the " high and mighty" towns people. This time we knew what to do. After battling for weeks we finally had them at our surrender. We once again claimed land.

I Hernan Cortes thought that i would be beaten when i got Tenochtitlan. Also all of the stories said that intruders who came to this civilizations would be imprisoned or they would kill them. They treated him like a king or a god but over time they started to get suspicious and the whole time i was planning my attack.I would ready to be attacked and i was on guard and i was getting suspicious because the lack of food and they were rising the bridges so no one could get in or out it looked like they were about to attack him.

I was there guest because I had on them clothes that the Aztecs had never seen and the Aztecs thought that they were gods. Also he wzs being watched because the Aztecs started to get suspicious. The spanish were planning an attack on the Aztecs so they could take over.
I did not have to be ruthless because they already thought of I was a king or god and they pampered I so he did not have to be ruthless to the people.I Hernan will stay here for another 6 months so I can find how there military works and where there bridges and waterways.

I Hernan Cortes will stay here in the Aztec nation for another 6 months.I will stay here because they are pampering me and I’m getting to know them better. While im here im looking and finding out how I’m going to strike them. Now I’m getting suspicious of them because bridges and waterways are being closed up.I can’t get out.

    Mindset 2:

    Journal #1

It has been 27 days since I have seen the great shores of Spain. It has taken my fellow conquistadors and I 3 days to cut through tons of trees and plants. We found people, living breathing people behind those jungles. As we rode down the river next to the city the natives stared in awe. We were instantly led away to what looks like a castle. It was amazing. Everything was made of gold! The ruler was sitting on a golden throne. He was dark skinned and had a lot of gold jewelry. He begun speaking in fast languages, very different from Spanish. The only words I heard were the names: Quetzalcoatl and Montezuma. I do not know what they are but, I do not feel safe here. When the ruler finished speaking we were led to where we were to sleep the next six days.

    Journal #2
Since my fellow conquistadors and I have arrived at the great city we were showered with lavished gifts of food, clothes, and gold. Yes gold! I have not seen this much gold in my entire life. There is no place as grand as this as this one. We explored the city and found many great things. There was a bustling marketplace with hundreds of people going here and there. There were meat, cheese, fruit, clothes, gold, jewelry, gems and vegetable vendors. Anything you can think of it was there. The city was brilliant. As the sun shined on the golden buildings in the day to the huge moon at night. We spent six more days here until we witnessed something horrible. The people who I thought were nice are actually blood thirsty. They take kill people on the steps of a great temple and spill their blood on the temple. I do not know why they do this, but I do not care. It is not right to kill people like this. My fellow conquistadors and I immediately thought of an escape plan. We will be leaving be tomorrow.

    Journal #3
Today we are leaving. I think the natives are starting to get suspicious because we did not like their killings. I do not think they think who they thought we were anymore. They are not being as giving as they were before. They are more hostile. At noon the natives began to run us out of the city. They used torches and bows and arrows. Although we still fought most of them off, we still had to leave this beautiful place with horrible people.

    (Montezuma's Diary)

I saw these wonderful god like people. I've never seen these type of people before. So I made orders to sacrifice even more bodies for our gods. We treated them like royalty.

These people did not act like gods. These people avoided the sacrifice ceremonies, which after all, were created in their honor. So I expelled the Spanish from our city just in case they were Gods they were able to leave safely.

I woke up to screams and murder to look out my door and discover that my civilization was being attacked. The people attacking us were the same people we expelled from our city.

    Dear Journal, 1519

I finally came to the new land. I am miles and miles away from home. Even though I miss it I know it will make good for Spain. The main reason I had to leave was for gold, spread the Catholic religion, and of course the rich land. My troops and I walked until we found the most beautiful city ever! There were a lot of things to buy pottery, herbs, medicine, and food. Not only that but the city was really clean. That’s when strange looking people with copper skin came with extraordinary things like feathers on them, and the hair was black as a skunk’s fur. They approach us with strange looking faces.

My troops were ready to attack but that would bring war and the only thing I wanted was to relax. I had to find a way to take the Indians the land without them knowing. We walked until we saw a tall man with a lot of feathers. I am guessing that was chief. The Indians were ready to attack because that is something a tribe would have done. Right when I was going to tell my troops to get ready, the chief told them in a strange language to put their weapons down. Everyone was looking at us as if we were jewels that they have never seen before. I somehow understood what the chief was telling me, he said they were called Aztecs and that they would do anything to serve us. I asked him why and his response was because we were Gods.

I gave my troop smiles telling them to put the weapons down. The chief’s name was Montezuma. His city’s name was called Tenochtitlan. The Aztecs gave us everything we wanted. This made it easier for us to capture the land!

The time goes on and we still don’t know how to get the land. Good thing is that the chief Montezuma died and of course I took his hostage. The Aztecs keeps giving us dead bodies which disgust me! I notice the Indians were starting to act strange and told us to leave! I was relieved I was leaving but I still wanted the land. My troops and I started to make plans in getting the land and destroying the Aztec Empire. We went and fought them with the help of another tribe. We also won with the help of the canine dogs which looked awfully scary to the Aztecs. But our biggest weapon of all was disease. The Aztecs were not used to the diseases in Europe and of course that killed them. That was the end of the Aztec Empire. I am really proud of myself because I represented Spain taking over the land.
    sincerely
    Hernan Cortes,

  40. I woke up in my royal bed, I got up and started to sharpen my sword. I thought we should conquer another kingdom but that would be too much chaos. So I thought what if we go to a kingdom and looked. I got the troops together and we headed out of Spain. The dogs followed us as we walked through the plain. We found a road and followed it and walked into a country and they greeted us and gave us all these things such as we were gods. I wondered why then I found out they had a plan to kill me. I left there alive and returned to Spain.

The first day the visitors came I realized that the one with light skin, feathers, and shiny clothes he was our saviour.A legend tells that a god was beaten in a game and was banished before he left he said he will come back with feathers in his head light skin and he will save us befor the world ends.We gave him and his friends hood, water, cloths, and our happiness.I was excited that our saviour has come to save us.Im not sure why we cant understand him but thats not important what’s important is that he is going to save us from the end of the wrold.

I'm starting to think that he is not our saviour because he is avoiding our sacrifices. He is also not coming to different godly meetings. He does not like seeing the hearts and blood of our people.Im going to try to tell him to leave without ubseting him. When i woke up I saw that him and his friends left.

Years have passed and he came back with 4 legged beast and all of the tribes that hate us.Some of my men got sick by his men.The 4 legged beast ate most of my men and they use weapons that use magic they fire weird items. One of the beast are fast and can be killed easily if they are not moving.I have a feeling that we are all going to be wiped out.

Montezuma was a very strong ruler he rule help by work with the aztecs which is good to know that their is a emperor their to help you . Many ruler would not help as much as he did he was in battle in with spain . Spain just came into the aztecs town , had come with a plan to do this lands to conquer, gold to capture, and people to convert to the Catholic religion . Which was very smart because they all went and act like they were visiting the Aztecs town but they had they had a plan they had planned to then come to Aztecs town which is smart . Which they did have the aztecs thought they were just visiting their town . Then they started to stay their for a long time which was good .

Then the Spanien start to do they a little different which mean they were like already planning their attack . Which was to conquer lands , then the Aztecs start to see what the Spanien were doing and they were going to battle which is . Not so good to happen the were planning to make the Aztecs from the what religion they were to Catholic religion . Which the Aztecs decide that they were going to battle each other . This is already starting the fall of the Aztecs , which is not good for them .

The battle begun and not how the Spanien was by their gun was by their powerful horse and dog which is cool . So the battle the Spanien win also by something else they had in their plan which was , the Spanish brought huge fierce mastiffs with them into battle . They brought a disease which the Aztecs never had this disease it was called measles , the Aztecs never got this in their childhood which mean when they were little . The Aztecs their battle just by this main thing we're lands to conquer, gold to capture, and people to convert to the Catholic religion . Which is a lot but they did all those thing so that was it and how the Aztecs fell which is why they collapsed .

    My Diary Entry

If you are reading this that means I am dead. My name is Montezuma and was a heroic god but, my men and I have lost the fight. This my point of view of how my day had went during this time.

To start off, when I had met the spanish I had been thinking really hard or I wasn’t at all it was very stressful at the time. One thing I was probably thinking about was there trust in the air or not. Also about a plan to get through with the spanish as they had unspeakable firepower.
    Montezuma.

Milan: I have learned that when going against powerful societies that have unknown weapons to us it’s good to most likely stop. If it were up to me Montezuma would have not died in the fight.

    Montezuma
The diary of revenge and loyalty

    Dear diary,
I just met a new man named Hernan Cortes, he is an Aztec, and to me he is a god to all people in my Country what they wore was so magnificent and colorful. They didn’t look like normal Mayans they wore feathers and their helmets and wore all armor which was weird to me because the people in my country didn’t wear armor and own big giant 4 legged beasts and smaller beasts that ran around the bigger 4 legged beasts.

    Dear diary #2,
Right when Hernan arrived I made him captain general of the Armada. Though they don’t really act like gods, or act like they are very serious about our country because they never come to our sacrifice ceremonies. And at our sacrifice we are sacrificing people just for them so I don’t understand why they never come to our sacrifice ceremonies.

    Dear diary #3,
I’ve just been kidnapped by Hernan Cortes and his solidiers but I don’t know why he kidnapped me after all the people I sacrificed to keep them happy. Although I was kidnapped, my soldiers still defend me by going in battle against the Aztecs. the Aztecs have big and better weapons than ours, and there animals were trained to be killers because of how big they were but we still fought in battle. I’m running killing all of Cortes’s soldiers while his big wild beasts are biting every single piece of flesh off of my soldiers. I come face to face with Cortes we began sword fighting, I keep trying to hit him but he keeps on moving side to side so I can’t get him. We continue to sword fight but all of a sudden i’m bleeding from the side of my chest crying from the pain and screaming so loud the heavens can hear me I end up dying for my gods and wait patiently as my spirits go to the heavens. When my spirits go to the heavens all i can think af is one thing only and that is “I will get my revenge”

    THE END

    Dream Big!

    Dear Diary,
I am the great Cortez, when I entered Tenochtitlan my thoughts were running wild. I thought if the Spanish were going to like me and if they didn't what would happen to me in their territory. Otherwise I felt very confident to be entering the city, but my mind dropped to see what the people thought of me. When I got to the city of Tenochtitlan the Spanish were like guests and I was like the host of everything.
Since the people thought of me as a king they treated me with loyalty, royalty, and respect as a king should be respected by his people. Since I was treated with so much power I used the Spanish as a guard to shield me against an attack.
I really believed that I could trust the Aztecs because that treated me with royalty and they treated me like I was the king even though in my mind I knew that I wasn't, but instead I was a just a man with different characteristics on the inside and out. In my time in the city I new that I didn't have to do anything and just live off the people around me.

    Work hard. be nice.

There I was searching for gold and land to take over. Cutting trees and looking through the forests, and there they were the Aztecs. I thought they were question me and my tributes or do something but they did the opposite. When we entered tenochtitlan I thought we were going to have war over the land but they all acted weird. They were giving us gifts and good things the worst part they were sacrificing people for us. we were like their highest honor guest.
I found out that they treated me like that because of the legend they have about their god. The Aztecs thought I was the Quetzalcoatl. I thought it was weird that they were sacrificing people for us so I didn't act like I care or knew what was going on, there for they figured out that we were not them but thank god they didn't kill us.
After they kicked us out I wasn't going on guard against an attack of the non-delivery of food and for isolating me from their city because they usually kill people who got in or tried to get in their. After that, I decided to attack them because They would killed us.

  52. Dear Journal,

Hello. Montezuma here. These guards are acting very strange today. I have a very funny feeling about myself. I don’t know what I’ve done wrong. Can you help me? Okay, okay. Let me backtrack for a moment here and let’s see if you can help me figure this out.

So, when I first met him, Hernan Cortes, he seemed like the god Quetzalcoatl. He was really cool and nice. Now that’s different. He really isn’t Quetzalcoatl. He is a very very evil man, who just wanted all the riches to himself. When we first met, he did not act that way. He acted like a kind, generous man who was just simply coming to his throne to rule good people and to be a great ruler. He seemed as if he just found the place he was looking for, and he did, but it’s not what we all expected from him.

Now here we are, the guards have been treating me nicely and have been staring at me for the whole day like they are about to do something to me. Also Hernan Cortes has been laughing a whole lot more than he usually does. It’s like he’s watching a comedy show, but he isn’t. He doesn’t even watch T.V. Oh no, they are calling me out of my cell, they never do that. Wish me good luck. Bye journal.

    Signed,
    Montezuma
