Day 39: Crime & Punishment

Objective: The HHG Tributes of 2018 will be able to describe elements of medieval law and order.
Step 1: DO NOW. Open your homework from last night, I am going to come around to check it. While you are waiting for me to check your homework, work on your flash cards on quizlet.com.

Step 2: Let's look at a number of medieval torture devices.

Step 3: Why do you think people were allowed to be dealt with this way? Do you think these are still valid punishments? Why or why not?

Homework: Make a copy of this document, track the reading and then answer the questions on Medieval Crime & Punishment. When you are finished, copy and paste your answers into this form.

Questions to think about as you read through this article:
Why would people have such a strong believe that innocent would not be hurt? (Or that they would heal miraculously?)
What does it mean to be ostracized? Why would this happen if someone lied under oath?
What are the advantages and disadvantages to each kind of trial?
Would you be satisfied with a legal system like this? Why do you think times have changed?
